Ty Hafan Hit Back | The Star

So Ty Hafan have hit back against the crazy closeness of their site to the proposed Danter Dream Camp.

Holiday Lets next to their Hospice are not the neighbours they want to see at the Sully site.

I agree but, to be honest, any proposed plans in that area will always be highly emotive and very controversial.

But as a Devil’s Advocate also told me this week – Hayes Road is already a busy route for traffic, within an industrial area, that also has other local businesses and amenities close to the Hospice.

Food for thought?

Now, before you all pile on, that’s not to say I’m sure that a shipping container site is the way forward.

But let’s just hope that, land can used wisely in the future – though a Tibetan monastery is perhaps is the only new build possible!

Truth be told, I hope that the quest to build some holiday homes at Barry Island continues – whether by Henry Danter or a budding Welsh entrepreneur waiting in the wings.

Rumour has it that Mr Danter is even trying to buy the car park that sits on the former Butlins site but the local authority are adamant it’s not for sale.

Bit rich really since they were quick enough to flog the rest of our headland to house developers at the drop of a Kiss Me Quick hat.

As you know, in my view, Barry Island is desperate for some smart, short-term holiday lets.

‘The Rock’ has really raised its game over the last decade, and deserves a much more strategic approach.

The Gavin and Stacey effect, the rise of Barrybados, the very great vibe of the area, the (almost) perfect promenade.

And the beautiful beaches acting as a magnet to a whole host of water-based community groups, places us firmly on the Welsh map.

Cue a little bit of clever marketing and we could make the Island to the Goodsheds, through the Hood Road ‘Tunnel of Love’ into High Street an area worth so more than just a day trip.

Must mention here too, the two local lads who are looking to try and broker a deal between the Fairground Owner and Officials to make this happen.

Credit to them for their direct action trying to take the conversation up a level.

I can see exactly what they are genuinely trying to do here – and it’s not promoting Ty Hafan as a suitable site, believe me.

So let’s cut them some slack please.

Mind you before Mr Danter starts a new ambitious project, I think he could give the tired, old, Fairground some serious TLC first.

To me it looks in need of a lick of paint, a clearance of clutter, and a total tidy up.

And whilst he does this, perhaps the Council could also rid us of those awful rides on our Prom. There’s the Pleasure Park up the road so no need to plonk more down.

What’s that all about?

My solution is to trash the Ty Hafan Plan, consider the car park, and keep searching for suitable sites.

And whilst this plays out, the rest of us hope that other investors look for land – in liaison with the local authority.

I’m not holding my breath mind – are you?

Speak soon.

Have Your Say: Some locals are petitioning the Vale of Glamorgan Council to refuse the application made by Mr Danter to build a Holiday Camp on the land he has purchased.

This site is situated beside Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice and used by families with very sick children who have life limiting illnesses.

On the other side you have Beechwood College, school for Autistic young people, who again do not cope well with noise of any description and may be put at risk with the increase of traffic brought to this peaceful area.

Get Involved: Start speaking some serious truth to power please by completing the Vale Council’s ‘Let’s Talk About Life In The Vale’ Survey. Now’s the time to tackle the troubles in our Town (and wider Vale) – and spotlight our successes.
