A Barry business woman has been appointed by Cardiff Councils Race Equality Task Force which has been set up by the Leader of the Council Huw Thomas, to oversee the work of the Council to ensure that the services that it provides and procures are inclusive and meet the Equality legislation.

The work of the task force comes in the wake of Black Lives Matter protest following the killing of George Floyd in America.

The task force us being Chaired by Cllr Saeed Ebrahim and Hilary Brown, a civil lawyer with her own law firm called Virgo Consultancy Services Ltd,  specialises in immigration, asylum, human rights  and discrimination.

“I am delighted to have been invited to be a member of the task force,” said Hilary, and I commend Cardiff Council for demonstrating their commitment to Race Equality and bringing together people with the skills knowledge and expertise to ensure that Wales Capital City is able to stand proud on a reputation of fairness transparency and Racial Equality throughout all its services.

Hilary is also Co-Chair of Stand Up to Racism (SUTR) Vale, a Black-led Campaign Group who, with the strong support of Allies, are looking to unite our communities – locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

They were formed as part of the growing movement of people who have now recognized that racism is on the rise. And that people face increasingly overt racism, with levels of discrimination and abuse continuing to grow in the wake of the Brexit referendum –  as nationwide research reveals.

SUTR Vale aims to raise awareness of this racism and to challenge racism within the Vale of Glamorgan – whilst also working with local, national and international campaigns in support of those facing the devastating effects of Racism.

All, who support their aims and values, are welcome to join.
